Overview
How Spravato ketamine works
Spravato contains esketamine, a form of the ketamine molecule. It was approved by the FDA in 2019 for treatment-resistant depression and later for depressive symptoms in adults with suicidal thoughts or actions.
Because it's FDA approved, Spravato is the ketamine-based option most often covered by insurance. It can only be given in certified treatment centers under the Spravato REMS safety program.
